Right now I've got a 1 gb stick (all exactly the same) in each of the 4 slots. Windows only recognizes 3 gb of RAM. The guy in the shop said it was because the max is 4 and 1 is being taken up by my video card. There's nothing bad about leaving all 4 in, but I'd like to remove one if it's not doing any good. If you use all four slots, your computer will run as if all the slots have DDR3 memory installed and will not make use of the performance of the DDR4 sticks. RAM Slots on a Mac The only iMac currently on the market with user-serviceable RAM is the 27 inch model. The 21.5 inch version of the iMac has the RAM soldered to the motherboard. I ordered some G.Skill 6 GB (3 x 2 GB) DDR3 1600 mhz RAM and a AMD motherboard with 4 slots. I am planning to run Phenom ii x6 3.2 ghz on it. My friend says its bad to run 3 sticks of ram. Although, you can technically get away with buying 2 different RAM sticks. What matters, is that you need just 2 modules with identical memory. If you have 2 RAM modules with the same memory (for instance 2 x 4 GB) and you insert it in the correct DIMM (RAM slots) slots, you will utilize dual channel mode. It’s that simple My motherboard is a ASUS Prime Z270-P and the CPU is a I7-6700K. The RAM is Ballistix Sport DDR4-2666 Slots 1 and 2 on my M/B work fine but if I try 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 then all I get is a blank screen. The fans etc are running but nothing is on the screen Here is an example where we do see some difference in performance for the Core i9-9900K, but not the Ryzen 9 3900X. The Intel system saw a mild 4% performance boost when using four memory modules The motherboard's EZ Debug LED reaches the RAM light, waits a second and goes back to CPU and then loops back to RAM. This repeats if I have a RAM stick in slots 1 or 2 whereas 3 and 4 both work just fine. I tested it with the new pair of 3600mhz RAM sticks so I'm kind of losing hope now.

Oct 20, 2015 · BTW your board supports dual channel only in 2-4 and 1-2-3-4 slots according to the manual. With different sticks, like that 8GB and 4GB you've tried, dual-channel won't work. If the above manipulations did not help, try setting the memory to DDR3-1333 or lower and set the timings and voltage according to its SPD spec.
